Book Review: Good Power

Ginni Rometty worked her way up through IBM from an entry level position to CEO and chairman during her 40-year career. In Good Power: Leading Positive Change in Our Lives, Work, and World, she shares insights from her years of advocating for the good of the company and its stakeholders.

Rometty’s story models some of the best leadership and stewardship you will find in the world of tech corporate leadership. Good Power highlights her commitment to education and equity and the strategies she has used to solve these issues. It is a source of information and inspiration to any aspiring leader in business, tech, education, or solving the economic and social challenges of the 21st century.

One of Rometty’s big messages is the idea of an evolution from “me-to-we”:

  1. Get an education and make yourself valuable.
  2. Learn to think beyond yourself and come to lift up those around you as well.
  3. Cut your teeth at the lower levels of an organization and work your way up.
  4. Set up your successor and find ways to give back to the community.

Few have done this better than Rometty, who started out as a systems engineer at IBM and worked her way up to CEO and chairman.
